Un soutien aux victimes du seisme au Nepal.
Le séisme meurtrier du 25 avril à Katmandou a coûté la vie à des milliers de personnes.Toute la ville a été gravement touchée si bien qu’il n’y avait ni eau ni électricité. Les bâtiments de la ville se sont écroulés lors de la catastrophe et tout le monde était obligé de loger à l’extérieur. La situation a empiré à cause des fortes pluies et des répliques qui ont continué de secouer la ville de Katmandou. Entre-temps, Ophélie BELIN, la directrice de l’Alliance Française de Katmandou a pris contact avec Jean-Philippe BOTTIN, le Délégué général de la Fondation Alliance Française et le directeur administratif de l’Alliance Française de Delhi et a exprimé le besoin de tentes de survie pour venir au secours des victimes du séisme. A ce moment-là, l’auditorium de l’Alliance Française Katmandou logeait 100 personnes qui s’y étaient réfugiées. Par la suite, Jean-Philippe s’est chargé d’acheter des tentes Decathlon. Il est parvenu à se procurer tous les stocks de ces magasins à travers l’Inde. En conséquence, 300 tentes ayant la capacité de loger au total 950 personnes ont été achetées. C’était un achat de l’ordre de 1,5 millions de roupies (21.925 euros) auquel les Alliances Françaises du réseau Inde ont contribué. La Délégation Générale des Alliances Françaises a également participé à hauteur de 34%.
Le prochain défi était d’acheminer ces tentes sur le lieu du drame. Mais cela ne s’annonçait pas si facile du fait que les transporteurs aériens étaient trop sollicités et qu’il nous fallait attendre notre tour. Est entré en scène Franck Barthélémy, Conseiller Consulaire qui a eu vent, par Ophélie, de notre problème. Il a fait intervenir Jean-Pierre Massé (Directeur Général Accor India) qui a demandé à Mathieu Firmin (Directeur Ibis Delhi-Jaipur) de nous mettre en rapport avec Indigo. Ces derniers nous ont mis en contact avec Grace Logistics qui ont eu la bienveillance (au nom de leur RSE : Responsabilité Sociétale des Entreprises) de transporter les tentes à leurs frais jusqu'à Katmandu. Elles ont pris le vol et sont bien arrivées à Katmandou le 24 mai. Malheureusement, le lendemain, le gouvernement népalais a mis en place une nouvelle loi dans la vertu de laquelle tout matériel de secours doit passer par l’armée népalaise. Pendant que l’Alliance Française de Katmandu travaillait de tout son courage pour pouvoir recevoir les tentes, celles-ci restaient dehors et sans surveillance car les autorités népalaises ne les ont pas entreposées de ce fait nous avons perdu 22% du stock total. Le 2 juin, les tentes ont été finalement obtenues par l’Alliance Française de Katmandu. Elle les a distribuées aux victimes sans abri à Dolakha, un village reculé du Népal ainsi qu’à ses employés qui avaient perdu leurs domiciles.

Support to earthquake victims of Nepal.
On 25 April, a destructive earthquake shook the city of Kathmandu killing thousands of persons and leaving so many of them injured. The entire city was gravely affected by the earthquake to the extent that there was neither water nor electricity in the city. Buildings of the city collapsed during the catastrophe and everyone had to stay outside. All this got worse with strong rains pouring down and aftershocks that continued to shake the city making survival even more difficult. Meanwhile, Ophélie BELIN, Director of Alliance Française Kathmandu contacted Jean-Philippe BOTTIN, Délégué Général de la Fondation Alliance Française and Director of Alliance Française de Delhi and expressed the need for tents for rescuing homeless victims. At that moment, nearly 100 people were taking shelter in the auditorium of Alliance Française de Kathmandu. Consequently, Jean-Philippe took charge of buying tents from Decathlon and succeeded in buying entire stock of tents from all the Decathlon stores across India. Hence, 300 tents with a lodging capacity of 950 persons were bought. It was a purchase of 1.5 million Rupees (21,925 Euros) to which many Alliances Françaises of Alliance Française Network-India contributed. The participation of Délégation Générale was 34% of the total amount of this purchase.

Unfortunately, the following day a law was imposed by Nepalese Government as per which all the relief material should first pass by the Nepalese army. While the Alliance Française de Kathmandu was trying hard to recover the received stock of tents, it was left unattended because the Nepalese authorities failed to keep them in a warehouse. As a result 22% of the stock was lost. On 2 June, the tents were finally procured by the Alliance Française and were distributed to homeless victims of Dolakha, a remote village of Nepal. The employees of Alliance Française de Kathmandu who lost their homes in the earthquake also benefitted from these tents.
